Travel: Magical Time in Maine.

About a year ago I was invited to partake on a trip to a place called Great East Lake which is located on the border of New Hampshire and Maine.  Little did I know what I was in for.  It was amazing.  We stayed at a house that sat on the lake on a street named Leisure Lane... so fitting.  When our friend Ben invited everyone once again this year to return to the same place, my decision couldn't have come fast enough.  OF COURSE I'D GO AGAIN! DUH!! :)

This time around I decided to document/photograph every bit of the trip so you can see for yourself how awesome this part of the country really is.  Here are just a few of the many shots I took of the house, activities, food, towns, and of course the beautiful place that is Great East Lake and what we call...#LeisureLn.

Upon our arrival we were kindly greeted with a happy hour gathering hosted by the owners of the house, Dave and MB Bar. We were served various beverages and snacks and it truly started the trip off right.

Our first couple of days were a bit on the cloudier side. Regardless, the scenery and the lake were still beautiful in the gloomier gray setting. We took the time to take advantage of the house and the compound. Puzzles were built, ping pong was played, quick lake dips were taken, and comforting homemade seafood chowder was made.

On another one of the cloudier days we decided to take a mini trip to some nearby towns.  We first drove to the adorable coastal town of Ogunquit, ME where we enjoyed some more delicious clam chowder (can never get enough) and a nice little stroll along the cove.  On the way to Ogunquit we stopped for an ice cream snack at Scoops Deck.  This place is fantastic!  Not the greatest for the indecisive (like myself) since they have so many flavors, but absolutely wonderful for treating the inner kid in you.

After Ogunquit we took the drive to yet another charming town called Kennebunkport, ME.  Here we caught a picturesque sunset while eating one of my all time favorite lobster rolls from the tiny yet delicious, Clam Shack

On the more sunnier days we took absolute advantage of the weather.  We'd eat breakfast al fresco on the deck overlooking the lake.  The many water toys the house supplied were fully used by all. Some people kayaked while others paddle boarded or canoed.  There was also a rope swing just around the bend of the lake close to the house.  It was a little on the sketchy side, but with the peer pressure of friends, I did it!  Check that off the bucket list!

We also rented a pontoon boat for a few days during our stay.  This was such a great idea.  We took the boat on a couple tours around the 1,825-acre lake.  We'd stop the boat in the middle of the lake and jump right on in for a swim.  The sunset boat ride and swim was definitely one of the highlights of this trip. It was truly magical.

As the days grew closer to the 4th of July we decided to do what the locals do... get some fireworks!!  Having grown up in California, legalized fireworks were never an option... unless you go south of the border. ;)  So the idea of getting some fireworks and lighting them up at the house over the lake sounded spectacular.

Along with the fireworks we cooked a classic meal of steamed lobster and corn.  I just couldn't get enough New England style seafood on this trip.  One of my all time favorite kinds of food to eat.  It's so great how cheap seafood is out there during the summer time.  Definitely made for some fantastic meals!

Saying good-bye to #LeisureLn wasn't so much hard as it was sad.  The second time around was even more special than the first because I got to relive some great moments with friends from the first trip, but also got to create new ones with them and the first timers.  It's a place I'd highly recommend to the outdoorsy type looking for another fill of nature and to city folk just needing to get away and relax.

I don't exactly know when #LeisureLn and I will meet again, but I hope it's not too long before I find myself back on the lake.

Travel: Farewell New York...

It's been quite awhile since my last post!!  My apologies!  The main reason, or excuse, is at the end of 2014 I made the big move from New York City back to my home state of California... specifically Los Angeles, CA.  And even though it's been about 3 months since the move, I find it necessary to add a blog post about the city.

Why did I move you ask? Many reasons really.  One, California/home was starting to get heavier on my mind the year prior to the actual move.  Two, family.  Three, nothing was really keeping me in New York - job was mediocre and there was no relationship.  Four, this one I'll keep to myself... but it's a very happy one.

If you asked me in 2010 when I moved to New York if I'd be as sad as I was to leave it, I'd probably, in fact I'd definitely, say no.  But after four and a half years I fell in love with the city.  The people.  Its personality.  The energy.  The good and the bad.  The freezing cold and the scorching hot.  All of it.  This post would be a gazillion pages long if I tried to explain why, so I'll just leave it at that.  It's also been 3 months since the move and I like to think I've moved on... at least a little.

I started a hashtag on Instagram that was #TerisLastDaysInNYC, and although it was probably obnoxious seeing it tagged on my pictures for 2 months, I'm so happy I did it.  Seeing all the photos I took before leaving brings me back to a mini lifetime that almost feels like a dream.

A little while back I participated in a "black and white photo challenge" which one b/w photo was posted each day for 5 days.  I decided to do an ode to the city.  Enjoy!

Travel: Turks and Caicos

Recently my good friends and I took a trip to Turks and Caicos. I've always heard great things about it, so when my friend asked us if we wanted to celebrate her upcoming birthday there I couldn't help but say yes before she finished her sentence. Also, one of the two New Year's resolutions I made this year was to get out of the country at least once. Talk about killing two birds with one stone!

Since it was hurricane season, tickets and accommodation prices were much cheaper. There was a little worry we'd get some bad weather, but luckily we were blessed with perfect skies the entire trip.

We landed in Providenciales and the weather was warm and bright...just what we wanted!! A group taxi was taken to our hotel, The Alexandra, located on Grace Bay. The 9 of us shared the 4 bedroom 4 bathroom penthouse suite. The place was huge with an absolutely amazing view. The staff was friendly and we were greeted with the island's drink of choice... Rum Punch. We quickly put on our swim suits and hit the beach. It was as beautiful as the pictures you see online... and absolutely unreal. Sand was soft and the water was clear.

The front desk suggested that the local Fish Fry was not to be missed, so after enjoying the sun and getting some needed rest we headed to the outdoor party. It was festive and filled with both locals and tourists alike. Being that we were a few rum punches in, my friends and I had a blast dancing it up. It was so much fun!!

The local fare is filled with delicious seafood with the main dish of choice being conch. We had it prepared in many ways, but my favorite was the fried conch served at our hotel's restaurant, Mango Reef. It tasted great paired with an ice cold bottle of T&C's local beer, Turk's Head. We ate there quite a bit and the food and service were great every time!

While most of the vacation was spent relaxing on the beach, playing with the beach gear provided by the hotel, and drinking & eating our hearts out, the highlight for me was taking a private boat snorkeling. We were picked up right by our hotel. Food was provide, rum punch was flowing, and the 3 man crew was friendly and fun. The trip was broken into 3 parts. First, find live conch. Second, snorkel the 3rd largest barrier reef in the world - Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. Third, park the boat at Half Moon Bay, drink, play with all the iguanas, enjoy the unbelievably beautiful beach all while the crew made fresh ceviche with the conch they just caught. It was an amazing experience filled with lots of laughing and even more dancing.

Turks and Caicos is a magical place that I would highly suggest for anyone who is looking to enjoy some of best beaches in the world (yes, i'm going to stick to that bold statement). The people are friendly, the food & drinks are delicious, and everywhere you look is spectacular. What more can you ask for!? Take me back!!
